How to choose the right clothes for skiing
We've shared tips on how to dress for cross-country skiing before. Now we thought we'd continue the trend and share our top tips for choosing the right clothes for the slopes - perfect for adults and children alike!
Clothing for skiing - our top tips
The last thing you want to do on the slopes is freeze. On the other hand, you don't want to be too sweaty either, as this can result in getting cold later on. It is therefore best to dress to protect against cold winds and to ventilate away excess heat.
To succeed in this task, we advise you to invest in good shell clothing and apply the so-called layer-on-layer principle. Comfortable and functional!
Here are our top clothing tips for your ski holiday:
First layer, closest to the body
Close to your body, you should wear a thin garment that will keep you warm and wick away moisture. Preferably a wool base layer. This material is ideal for alpine skiing. T-shirts and long johns or tights can also work. However, not as good as a woollen base layer. In addition to the base layer, you should also wear a pair of warm socks on your feet.
Invest in good shell clothing and apply the so-called layer-on-layer principle - comfortable and functional!
Second layer, on top of the base
The second layer is meant to be on top of the base layer but inside the outerwear. Again, it's important to think functionally - garments should be warming and moisture-wicking. A thicker fleece, wool or synthetic sweater is recommended. Some people also prefer to wear trousers, while others prefer not to. If you know you are prone to freezing, trousers are recommended.
The purpose of this layer is so that it can be removed if the sun makes itself felt and you get too hot.
Third layer, outerwear
Last but not least, we have the third and final layer, which consists of outerwear. Here it is important to choose a jacket and a pair of trousers that keep out both wind and rain. In addition to keeping out the wind and rain, the outerwear should also have good ventilation. This way your body will always be warm enough and you won't sweat. For this purpose, we highly recommend outerwear made of Gore-Tex or other similar materials.
In addition to a jacket and trousers, it is of course important to have warm and comfortable gloves on your hands and a hat on your head! If you are easily cold, you can wear two pairs of gloves - a pair of thinner finger gloves to keep warm, followed by a pair of thicker gloves that block out wind and moisture. This way, you can also take off the thin gloves if it gets too hot. A trick that is particularly useful for children.
