Ski instructor Kalle's top tips on ski school

Are you wondering what to expect when your child goes to ski school? Don't worry, Kalle Adolfsson has worked as a ski instructor in Stöten for three years - he knows what he's talking about. Here you can read his best tips on what you as a parent can think about before, during and after your child goes to ski school in Stöten.

What should I consider when booking a ski school for my child?

Please read the website carefully to find out the prerequisites for each group before booking. If you are unsure or unsure between two groups, it is usually best to take the less advanced of the two. If the skiing level is too low for your child, you can usually change groups in consultation with the ski instructors.

What can I as a parent think about before the ski school starts?

Make sure your child is dressed for the weather. Layers usually work best and keep wool closest to the body. It is a cosy material that is both warm and breathable. Also, make sure your child has eaten properly and gone to the toilet before the lesson starts.

What should I consider when dropping my child off at ski school?

Be enthusiastic and show your child that ski school is fun! If you're anxious, it's likely to rub off on your child. When dropping your child off on the first day, you can wait for the first few minutes to make sure everything is okay, but then it will be easier if you just walk away and keep your distance. Should it be necessary for any reason, the ski instructor will contact you.

As a parent, can I supplement the ski school for the rest of the ski week?

Absolutely! Continuity and practice are often the key to becoming really confident on skis, so just because ski school is over for the day doesn't mean skiing is over for your child. Try different terrains and slopes to build skiing confidence - but avoid using a harness. It inhibits skiing development and often causes the child to rely on the harness and forget to plough.

Which slopes are best to practise on before/after ski school?

In Stöten there are plenty of slopes suitable for beginners, several of which also start from the top and are easily reached via the Vargy Express chairlift. The children's area around Soltorget is perfect for those who are new to skiing, but if you want to try a slightly longer run, you should definitely take a visit to Grandma's downhill run. It's actually Sälen's longest slope, but it has an optimal gradient for beginners.
