Free cross-country skiing at Sälen
When you hear the name Sälen, most people probably think first and foremost of the wonderful downhill skiing that the Sälen mountains have to offer. And of course, we’re experts when it comes to alpine skiing – but the fact is, we also have some really good cross-country skiing to offer! And did you know that cross-country skiing is free in Sälen?

Best cross-country tracks in Sälen
Like us, many Stöten visitors appreciate the combination of downhill and cross-country skiing that Sälen has to offer. Kicking off the day on carving skis in freshly groomed corduroy and then finishing the ski day on the cross-country tracks is, in the eyes of many, unbeatable!

Stöten offers a total of 45 km of cross-country trails to suit all tastes and abilities – completely free of charge!
45 kilometres of track
In Stöten we have a full 45 kilometres of cross-country trails, both down in the valley and up on the mountain. Our tracks are six metres wide, so there's plenty of room, and you can choose between both classic and skate. We have long and challenging cross-country trails that are perfect for the more experienced skier, as well as shorter and easier trails for the beginner - there's something for everyone! One of our seven cross-country trails is also lit until 23:00, so cross-country skiing at night is no problem, even during the darkest winter weeks.
Cross-country ski tracks in the valley
From our four trail centres down in the valley (Stöten Ranch, Soltorget and Kronoparken), you can easily access our lovely cross-country trails, which vary in length and difficulty. Lysrundan (3 km) is Stöten's shortest cross-country trail, but it offers classic skiing in varied terrain and is therefore best suited to the more experienced skier. The trail is also illuminated until 23:00 - perfect for evening rides! The cross-country track Slingersvansen (7 km) offers classic-style skiing while Pipsvängen (4 km) and Comborundan (8.5 km) offers both classic and skate. Träningsspåret (5 km) is the track we usually advise beginners to try the first times on cross-country skis. Here you can practice both classic and skate in a gentle track with few level differences.

Enjoy fantastic cross-country skiing both in the valley and up on the bare mountain
Cross-country skiing in the mountains
Cross-country skiing in the mountains is something you just have to experience when you visit us! The stunning views of both Swedish and Norwegian mountain scenery can take anyone's breath away. With the WC Express, you can easily get to the top, where you can then head out into Toppspåret (3 km) or Eastern Spruce Fell Tour (16 kilometres). The latter is our longest ski trail and is located on the highest peak of the Sälen mountains - 948 metres above sea level!
Clothing by weather
When cross-country skiing at the summit, it is important to check the weather forecast carefully so that you can dress appropriately. The weather in the mountains can change quickly and the cooling effect of the wind is often stronger than you might think. If you are unsure about how to dress for a trip to the mountains, you can always ask our experienced staff for advice. Remember that all activities in the mountains are at your own risk, so always think "safety first".
