However, as both time and resources are often limited, it is important to be able to do something quickly. In this article, we thought we'd share our top tips for easy food to cook in the mountains!

Simple food to prepare in the cottage

Imagine a long and wonderful day with The best skiing in Sälen. Maybe you have taken the chance to experience corduroy skating Or have you tried the Sälen's longest descent at 3060 metres? If not, it's likely that one of our other 48 descents will have put you at ease.

After such a fantastic day, it can be nice to come back to your cosy mountain hut, throw off your skis and enjoy a tasty meal with your loved ones. However, as energy can easily run out, it's important to be able to cook something simple, nutritious and tasty.

So below we thought we'd share three simple dishes that are perfect to prepare at the cottage. Many of the dishes can also be prepared at home and then reheated on site.

Tacos - a classic that always goes down well

Tacos are still a favourite meal for many. And because it's so easy to prepare, it's perfect for skiing holidays. Buy one or more proteins of your choice - such as minced meat or chicken, haloumi, tofu or similar - and add vegetables, crème fraîche and salsa. It doesn't get any easier or tastier than that!

Lasagne - classic or vegetarian

One dish that is filling, long-lasting and delicious is lasagne. Prepare it either in the classic way or also replace the minced meat with a vegetarian alternative such as lentils. Make it easily as follows:

  1. Start by setting the oven to 175 degrees.
  2. Peel and then chop the yellow onion and garlic. Two of each is usually suitable for 500g of minced beef. However, you can of course adjust the amount to suit your taste.
  3. Then fry the onion, garlic and ground beef in a frying pan. Once the mince is nicely coloured, you can add tomato puree as desired. 4-5 tablespoons are usually suitable. Then season the mince with salt, pepper, thyme and rosemary.
  4. Next, add the crushed tomatoes (500 g) and a meat stock cube. Leave to simmer in the pan for about 10 minutes.
  5. While you're waiting for the mince to be ready, you can start making the sauce. Start by melting 6 tablespoons of shortening in a saucepan, then stir in the same number of tablespoons of wheat flour. Dilute the mixture with a litre of milk while whisking. Cook for about 5 minutes and then season with salt and pepper.
  6. Then, take out an ovenproof dish and start layering lasagne sheets, sauce and minced meat. Add cheese if you wish.
  7. Then put the tin in the oven and leave for 40-45 minutes. Voila - your tasty lasagne is now ready!

Simple stew with chicken

Something that is also grateful to prepare during the ski trip are stews. Which of course can be varied endlessly. The recipe below uses chicken, but you can of course replace it with meat or a vegetarian alternative.

  1. Start by cutting up the leek, yellow onion and capsicum into pieces. Don't be afraid to substitute, exclude or add other vegetables.
  2. Then sauté the vegetables in a frying pan before adding the shredded chicken fillet, chicken thigh fillets or other protein. 600g is usually suitable for 4-5 people.
  3. Then add 2-3 tablespoons of tomato puree, a bouillon cube (chicken or vegetable, for example) and 2.5 dl of cooking cream. Season with salt, pepper and other spices such as thyme. Leave to simmer for about 15 minutes.
  4. Then cook the rice and serve.
