Stöten invests SEK 120 million in the plant
Winter 26/27: New 6-chair lift at Skidtorget
After last year's investment of SEK 75 million, we are continuing the development of our fine ski centre. Ahead of winter 26/27, we are now investing a further SEK 120 million to enhance the skiing experience and improve accessibility around our westernmost area - Skidtorget. A new, improved ski area including a brand new 6-chair lift, more car parking spaces and a new children's area will be ready by next winter.
- The new chairlift means increased accessibility, better comfort and even more skiing pleasure for our guests," says Tomas Berg, Destination Manager at Stöten in Sälen.
In the run-up to last season, we invested millions in the resort. The investment resulted in, among other things, three new slopes, an expansion of ski hire at Stöten Ski Shop and an even more developed snow system - all to increase quality and accessibility for our guests. We are now taking the next step in our development and investing a further SEK 120 million in the resort's westernmost ski area, Skidtorget. The investment will, among other things, result in a completely new chairlift.
- Developing Skidtorget has long been part of our development plans, and last year we completed the first stage of work with a completely new slope and a more comprehensive snow system in the area. Now we are starting stage two of the development process by building a new chairlift," says Tomas Berg.
The entire Skidtorg area will get a major facelift. It will be a complete ski area with a warming hut, toboggan run, café and restaurant. Before next winter, the car park will also be expanded and a brand new children's area will be created next to the camping lift - perfect for beginners. A new road will also be built, which will both make access easier and increase the size of the Ski Square.
Popular slope increases pressure on Skidtorget
The new Farfars fartvind run, which premiered in December last year, has quickly become the favourite of many Stöten guests with its generous width and gentle slope. At the same time, the popularity of the run has increased the pressure on the lifts around Skidtorget.

The planned chairlift, a detachable 6-chair lift with a length of 1,100 metres, brings the total lift capacity of the Stöten to an impressive 27,000 persons per hour. With modern detachable technology, high comfort and fast transport time, the lift takes riders up 230 metres in less than four minutes. The lift will be based at Skidtorget and the descent will be strategically placed just above the top station of the Dubbelliften - but below the tree line to ensure that skiing is as weatherproof as possible.
- "The result of the new chairlift will be better operation, smoother flows and a more reliable skiing experience for the guest, even in challenging weather conditions," says Tomas Berg.
Three squares - a ski area for everyone
Skidtorget has long been a meeting place for ski fans looking for really good and challenging skiing. It's also home to our award-winning downhill run Älvan, which has been voted Sweden's best piste by the ski forum Freeride for five years in a row. The new investment means that the Skidtorg area is now also available to beginners and skiers who prefer gentler skiing. This also means that all of our three squares offer varied skiing for the whole family with direct access to the chairlift.
- Our three plazas create a skiing experience where all guests, regardless of skiing level, can utilise the entire Stöten ski area. There is something for everyone - from conveyor belts and drag lifts to modern chairlifts and slopes that range from green, gentle and flat to black, steep and challenging," says Tomas Berg.
Stöten continues to develop
Despite multi-million investments in recent years, we have no plans to slow down development. When Skidtorget is completed next winter, we will enter the next phase of our development process. Increased accessibility is still high on the priority list and the guest's skiing experience is always in focus.
- With these investments, Stöten continues to develop as a modern, accessible and sustainable ski destination where skiing pleasure, flow and quality are at the centre. "We have many ambitious plans for the future and have already started work on the next phase of our masterplan. Johan Thorn, CEO of Stöten in Sälen.
