3 Skiing tips for beginners

We're all beginners at some point, especially when it comes to skiing. That's why we've previously shared our top tips for learning to ski. Now we thought we'd continue along the same lines and share three skiing tips for those of you who are new to the slopes, but who have already started skiing!

Skiing for beginners

To start with, it's important that skiing feels fun and reasonably challenging. Here are our top tips for making your days on the slopes a joy:

1. start with easier slopes

It's probably not a good idea for a beginner to take on a black piste. Instead, start with easier slopes that offer the right gradient, terrain and challenge. As you get more comfortable on the slopes, you can test yourself on more difficult and challenging pistes!

At Stöten in Sälen, it is of the utmost importance that everyone feels welcome on the ski slopes, regardless of previous experience or level of knowledge. That's why you'll find around 40 slopes of varying difficulty - from green slopes that are ideal for beginners, to black slopes for those with more experience.

If you are a beginner, we highly recommend you try the following slopes:

  • Granis
  • Grandmother's Run (Sälen's longest ski slope)
  • The glide path
  • Lovägen
  • Kronvägen

Explore all of the our ski slopes.

2. Focus on the basics

As well as starting with easier descents, it's also important to focus on the basics at first - learning to make carving turns and braking. It is important that you feel comfortable with both!

To learn more about how to master the carving turn, you may want to read our previous article "How to learn carving".

3. Don't be afraid to take breaks

Inexperienced skiers quickly get sore feet. Something that is not particularly strange considering that you are not used to wearing ski boots. A good tip is therefore to take breaks at regular intervals, if necessary.

If you want to catch your breath and rest your feet for a while, there are plenty of places to do this in Stöten. As well as finding several cosy barbecue areas close to our slopes, you'll also find plenty of restaurants. Why not enjoy a tasty lunch in the Fjällkåtan?
