Sweden's best ski resort for families with children 2024

2024 - Once again, the readers of Freeride, together with a select jury, have chosen Sweden's absolute favourites. Unsurprisingly, Stöten i Sälen took home several medals, including first place for both "Sweden's best ski resort for children" and "Sweden's best piste".

Sweden's best ski resort for families with children and three other coveted medals

The annual vote organised by the Ski Forum Freeride has been decided and now it's clear - Stöten in Sälen is Sweden's best ski resort for families with children in 2024. Ski Sweden has had its say and after last year's second place, Stöten is once again back at the top when it comes to the country's best ski resort for children and families with children.

Stöten is the ideal ski resort for families with children

Our popular ski resort in northern Dalarna has received the same award on two previous occasions (2021 and 2022), which is hardly surprising. In recent years, major investments have been made in the resort to make Stöten the optimal ski resort for families with children. In addition to expanding the concept with Vargy and Vargy's adventure course, in recent years we have also re-layered parts of the mountain to create more child-friendly slopes and invested in the construction of more accommodation that is perfect for families with children.

At Stöten in Sälen, children can enjoy daily kids' club activities such as après-ski, competitions, treasure hunts and - of course - Sälen's best skiing. Thanks to the child-friendly Vargy Express chairlift, families with children can easily reach the top of Sälen's longest descent, Grandma's Downhill. The new Familjebacken piste also allows even the smallest guests to descend easily from the top of the World Cup Express lift.

Älvan is named Sweden's best piste - for the fourth year in a row!

The hugely popular Stöten favourite Älvan is hard to dislodge from first place and for the fourth year in a row (!) the black run has been voted Sweden's absolute best piste. The slope, which is qualified for FIS GS competitions, has become the favourite of many with its significant gradient and slope length.

Freeride's expert jury delivered extremely flattering justifications for Älvan's high ranking. Among other things, Tobias Liljeroth described Älvan as "a textbook example of how to create good skiing that lives in symbiosis with the terrain" while Erik Ehrner called Älvan "Sälensfjällen's finest" and praised the slope for its impressively long drop in varied terrain. And of course we can't help but agree!

Silver medal in the categories best ski resort and best snowpark

As if these coveted podium places weren't enough, Stöten in Sälen also won silver in two more categories. After the skiing community has had its say, it is clear that Stöten is also Sweden's second best ski resort as a whole and that Stöten SnowPark is the country's second best park.

Stöten news for the winter season 24/25

Älvan is a textbook example of how to create great riding that lives in symbiosis with the terrain

For the season opening in December, Stöten in Sälen is planning several major innovations. Among other things, we are building a brand new park, Junior Park, with a green line of jumps and boxes for our youngest guests and other park curious. In addition, we are launching a new off-piste slope with the witty name "Pistoff" where Stöten guests can try free riding in untracked snow. Both innovations are new additions to our popular concept Stöten Adventure.

In addition, this winter we are building a brand new playground at Stötentorget so that children can be active outside the ski slope. Following feedback from our guests, we are also building new stands with more seating and reintroducing the popular juice stations with hot juice for all children.

Sälen's best skiing - every day until 6pm

Another new feature for Stöten and Sälen is that this winter all floodlit runs will be open until 18:00 every day. In addition, the popular morning skiing is being extended with even more opportunities - now guests can enjoy freshly groomed corduroy snow on four mornings each week.
