Sportlov is the holiday that falls in the latter part of the winter term for all school-age children - which is why it is also called winter holiday in some places. The week it falls in depends on where in Sweden you live, but most people have a holiday sometime between weeks 7 and 9.
The fact that it varies is very lucky for us in the Swedish mountains as the pressure is distributed over different weeks. If everyone had a sports holiday at the same time, the slopes would quickly become overcrowded!

Tips for the sports holidays
Going on a sports holiday to the mountains is for many the highlight of the year - but there is a lot to plan before departure. Here are our top tips for a successful sports holiday;
- Get going early. If you're travelling by car to the mountains, we recommend getting on the road as early as possible. This way, you'll hopefully avoid the worst traffic jams that usually occur during the sports holidays and you'll arrive at the ski resort in good time. Maybe you'll even have time for a bit of skiing on the day of arrival?
- Plan your journey in advance. The more you plan your journey, the smoother it will go. Before you set off, plan where you will stop for lunch, coffee and toilet breaks.
- Pre-book activities. It's no secret that the sports holiday weeks are almost always fully booked, so to make sure you don't miss out, you should book things in advance. Activities, restaurant visits and excursions are best pre-booked to avoid overcrowding.
- Plan your meal. Decide in advance whether you will have lunch on the slopes or at home in the chalet. Most accommodation in Stöten has access to a kitchen, so it can be a good idea to eat some meals at home to save money. All accommodation in Stöten is close to the ski system so it's no problem to take your lunch break at home in your chalet and then head back out on the slopes afterwards.
- Book departure cleaning. If you're staying at Stöten's Best Western hotel, final cleaning is included, but if you're staying in a cottage or apartment in Stöten, there's almost always the option to buy extra cleaning. Make the most of your holiday and skip the cleaning bit so you can spend that time skiing or doing other fun activities instead!
